Sick children in Gaza are "desperately" waiting for treatment abroad.

Dozens of children battling various illnesses continue to wait in the pediatric ward of Nasser Hospital. Doctors say preventing these patients from leaving the hospital is endangering their lives.

There are 18,000 patients, 5,800 of whom are children, waiting for referral.

Dr. Ahmed al-Ferra, Head of the Pediatrics Department at Nasser Hospital, noted that because the health system collapsed during the two-year genocide, radiology and laboratory tests, and sometimes surgeries, could not be performed, and medicines were in short supply, leading to a backlog of patients traveling abroad for treatment.

Ferra said, "We are talking about 5,800 children among 18,000 people waiting for referral. Because referrals cannot be made outside, these people waiting for treatment are losing their lives one after another."
